1 lb. spaghetti (made according to package directions)
1 large loaf Italian bread
3 tbsp butter
1 tsp garlic powder
1 lb. Italian sausage
1/2 onion (diced)
2 cloves garlic (diced)
1 small can tomato paste
1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
1 tbsp Italian seasoning
1 tsp garlic salt
1 tsp salt and pepper
mozzarella cheese to top
Instructions
- Cut the middle out of the bread loaf and butter the inside. Add garlic powder then toast bread in the oven at 350 degrees for 5 min.
- Using a cast iron pan, heat the pan on the griddle on medium high.
- Brown sausage in pan. Add diced onion and garlic and cook until onion is slightly softened and garlic is aromatic.
- Add tomato paste, tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, garlic salt, salt and pepper. Mix together in pan and allow to cook until heated through.
- Add cooked spaghetti to sauce and mix to cover spaghetti.
- Set bread on griddle on a warming rack to keep it off the direct heat.
- Fill hole in bread with spaghetti and top with desired amount of mozzarella cheese. Cover to allow cheese to melt
