  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup pecans, chopped
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Melt 1/2 cup butter in a 9-inch round cake pan. Add brown sugar and melt together over medium heat. Sprinkle chopped pecans evenly over the sugar.
  3. In a bowl, mix flour, salt, and baking powder.
  4. In another bowl, cream together softened butter and white sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla. Add flour mixture alternately with milk, mixing just until incorporated.
  5. Pour batter over pecans in the pan. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Let cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then invert onto a serving plate. Serve warm or at room temperature.
